Why bond markets care

Inflation data can alter expectations for the path of central-bank policy, real yields and the shape of sovereign yield curves. A single observation should not be read in isolation: the direction of the trend, revisions, monetary-policy expectations and the behaviour of the sovereign yield curve all affect how markets interpret new macroeconomic information.

How to read this period

This page records the official series value published by Statistics Canada for February 2025 and available when this BondStats build was generated. Official statistical series can be revised, so historical observations may reflect later revisions rather than the exact first-release vintage. BondStats therefore does not label the figure as a market “surprise” or compare it with consensus estimates unless a separately licensed source is available.
