Reference settings reflect the zero-rate regime. Changing the policy rate creates a simplified scenario, not an official historical SNB interest calculation.

Methodology & calculation logic

Transparent assumptions
  1. Threshold: for reserve-subject banks, max(CHF 10m, latest minimum reserve requirement, 36-reference-period average × factor). Other holders use their individually assigned fixed threshold, with a CHF 10m minimum in this model.
  2. Unremunerated portion: for reserve-subject banks, max(0, latest minimum reserve requirement − eligible cash holdings), capped by the balance held within the threshold.
  3. Tier split: the remainder within the threshold receives the policy rate; balances above it receive the policy rate minus the discount.
  4. Interest: (within-threshold remunerated balance × policy rate + excess balance × discounted rate) × days / 360. All amounts are CHF, with rates expressed annually.
  5. 2026 comparison: recalculates identical balances under factors 15 and 13.5. It isolates the mechanical threshold effect and does not estimate behavioural changes.

Real remuneration is calculated daily using actual account balances, applicable rates and SNB reference-period data. This simplified workbench assumes constant balances throughout the selected horizon. Actual SNB booking, legal-entity changes, account aggregation and institution-specific adjustments may differ.

Historical precision: 15.0× applied from 1 March 2026; 13.5× applies from 1 August 2026. The default policy rate is 0.00%, with a 25 bp discount above the threshold. Changing the rate creates a hypothetical illustration and may require different regime-specific official rules.
